Instance lifecycle and suspension
Trial lifecycle
A new tenant moves through the following states if billing is not configured.
| State | Duration | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Trial | 14 days | Complete payment setup before the trial ends |
| Read-only | 7 days after trial expires | Add a payment method to restore full access |
| Suspended | After read-only window | Contact the commercial team and complete payment setup as quickly as possible |
| Deleted | 14 days after suspension | No recovery possible — data is permanently removed |
During read-only mode the tenant is still accessible but no data can be written. Suspension removes access for all end users.
Failed payment lifecycle
For tenants with an active subscription, a failed payment triggers the following sequence.
| State | Duration | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Payment failing | ~1 week | Stripe retries the charge at least 3 times |
| Past due | Up to ~2 weeks | All retries have failed; Stripe eventually cancels the subscription |
| Subscription cancelled | — | Automated process schedules instance deletion |
| Deleted | 2 weeks after cancellation | No recovery possible — data is permanently removed |
If a payment method is updated while the subscription is past due, Stripe retries the charge immediately and restores the subscription on success.
